Homeowners associations (HOAs) define a neighborhood’s aesthetic rules. Many have tried to restrict the ability of homeowners to go solar. Unfortunately, Ohio does not prevent HOAs from doing so.

The state of Ohio currently has no solar access laws in place to ensure that homeowners can install solar on their homes. However, homeowners are able to negotiate solar easements with neighbors or homeowners associations. Ohio Code 5301.63 lays out the components of a solar easement.
